The small island of Benbecula lies between North and South Uists in the Outer Hebrides. Benbecula is small, flat, low-lying and dotted with lochs. The isles of Berneray, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay are linked by causeways and bridges and they provide everything to make your ‘get away from it all’ holiday memorable.

The Restful Nest is situated in the township of Nunton (Gaelic: Baile nan Cailleach) which has many historical buildings, namely Nunton House and the Steadings as well as an ancient burial ground.

The much-altered Nunton House was once part of a nunnery and dates from the 14th century. It was later the home of the MacDonalds of Clanranald. Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-88) is said to have hidden here in 1746 and was given clothes by Lady Clanranald to disguise  himself as Betty Burke.  He left with Flora MacDonald to travel to Rossinish Point on the east coast of Benbecula to cross the sea to Skye and freedom (1722-90).

Nunton is also the site of a ruined chapel, Teampall Mhoire, an old burial ground and a modern cemetery. Cula Bay, at Nunton is identified on the OS map as Nunton Bay but locally known as Cula Bay.  It has glorious white sands; spectacular sunsets can be viewed from the northern edge.
